Otoplasty in Switzerland - Correct protruding ears for facial harmony
Protruding ears can be a source of psychological discomfort for both children and adults. Otoplasty, or surgery for protruding ears, corrects abnormalities of the auricular cartilage to bring the ears closer to the head and restore aesthetic symmetry to the face.
For whom is this procedure indicated?
This surgery is intended for :
- Adults of all ages wishing to correct an aesthetic problem or complex,
- Children aged 7 and over, once their ears have grown sufficiently to allow stable correction.
It can be performed on one or both ears, depending on the shape and projection of the auricle.
Preoperative consultation
During your consultation with Dr. Medhi-Sébastien BECK, a precise analysis is carried out:
- Study of cartilage defects,
- Assessment of the symmetry and positioning of the ears in the overall face,
- Definition of a personalized operating plan.
You will receive a complete information sheet, a clear estimate and specific pre-operative instructions.
Procedure
Otoplasty is a minimally invasive surgery performed :
- Under local anaesthetic,
- Under neuroleptanalgesia (mild sedation),
- Or under general anaesthetic, particularly in children, or according to patient preference.
The incision is usually concealed at the back of the ear, allowing the cartilage to be reshaped (folded, refined or repositioned) to recreate a natural curve.
Post-operative recovery
A follow-up appointment is scheduled 1 to 2 days after surgery.
In the days that follow :
- Bruising and temporary swelling are common,
- Transient insensitivity in the pinna may be felt,
- Wearing a shaping bandage or protective headband may be recommended for a few days, especially at night.
The final result can be appreciated gradually, over a period of one to three months, as the tissues stabilize.
